2008 introduces … the first ever Barbie® doll to be inspired by a dance company—Alvin Ailey® American Dance Theater Barbie® doll. Designed by Artistic Director Judith Jamison. (Right on time for Christmas… don’t hate on good marketing!) 
I absolutely LOVE seeing the Alvin Ailey dancers perform! Now, my oldest daughter has had the experience of seeing the Alvin Ailey® American Dance Theater perform. Her grandmother (THANKS MOM!) made sure she took a few of her grandchildren who she considered old even to appreciate the performance. My daughter and my nephew had the privilege to see the Alvin Ailey® American Dance Theater. They too now know of the famed beauty and grace of world-class dancers (many of whom are people of color).

Because of the powerful positive experiences my mom made sure I had particularly as it related to our African-American culture, seems I have always known the power and beauty of Black folk.
